This has been a recurring theme in the world of communication and in our podcasts for several months. A subject that often finds itself at the heart of articles in the specialized press, op-eds, or interviews with communication professionals: the engagement of brands. More than ever, corporate communications are being scrutinized and analyzed. This is a logical consequence of the increasingly prominent role companies have taken and sought to take within society in recent years.

Add to that the rise of social media, which has facilitated direct interactions with consumers, and brands are now being called upon to abandon neutrality. They must clearly display the causes they support and align their words with actions.

Ecology, feminism, representation, working conditions for employees and contractors—these themes have been among the most common in corporate communications until now. 

But for the past few weeks, another equally dramatic current event has dominated attention and minds: the war in Ukraine! The invasion of a country bordering the European Union surprised and shocked the world, triggering a wave of solidarity and mobilization.

Some brands have not hesitated to react, including luxury brands—a sector typically inclined towards discretion when politics is involved. What consequences will recent events have on the sector? Is the era of neutrality definitively over? That is the topic of today’s episode: The Impact of the War in Ukraine on the Luxury Industry.
